As humans, we are not a perfect being. Infact human beings are prone to sin.

Meanwhile, Islam teaches us to avoid sins when we can. Some sins are avoidable but we still go ahead and commit it because of the pleasure inherent in it.

In order to make Jannah, we must strive as much as we can to avoid sins and seek forgiveness for the ones committed.

However, as a Muslim faithfuls, we need to understand ways in which Islam provides for us to follow in other to be cleansed from the sins of the world.

1. Perform Tawbah (Repentance)

Repentance is the first pathway to seeking forgiveness from Allah. Make sure you seek forgiveness from Allah SWT. Insha Allah, your sins will be forgiven.

Allah says in the Holy Quran;

“But whoso repenteth after his wrongdoing and amendeth, lo! Allah will relent toward him. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.” (Verse 5: 39)

Allah is a merciful God and repentance means, you’re admitting your sins and promising never to go back to them.

2. Dhikr, Istighfar, And Pray

When it comes to seeking for forgiveness, doing dhikr, istighfar and praying fervently works. If you can make it an habit to be doing dhikr in the morning and evening, Allah will forgive our sins that we’ve committed.

Meanwhile, if you’re doing Dhikr, do it with your sincere heart and surrender it only to Allah SWT.

The Holy Qur’an Says;

“Yet whoso doeth evil or wrongs his own soul, then seeketh pardon of Allah will find Allah Forgiving, Merciful.” (Verse 4: 110)

3. Read Shalawat To Prophet Muhammad SAW & His Family

Reading Shalawat addressed to the Prophet Muhammad and his family before and after dua can make you receive mercy from Allah SWT. This was said in Qudsi hadith.

Imam Ali Ar-Rida said;

“Whoever can not erase his sin then reproduces shalawat to Muhammad and his family, for it can erase his sin from his sins” (Bihar al-Anwar 94: 47)

4. Kindness Toward Both Of Parents

When seeking forgiveness from Allah, it is imperative to for the habit of being kind to your both parents. Be dedicated to taking care of them.

This has been proven to be one of the ways all our sins can be forgiven by Allah.

The Holy Qu’ran said;

And We have commended unto man kindness toward parents. His mother beareth him with reluctance, and bringeth him forth with reluctance, and the bearing of him and the weaning of him is thirty months, till, when he attaineth full strength and reacheth forty years, he saith:

My Lord! Arouse me that I may give thanks for the favour wherewith Thou hast favoured me and my parents and that I may do right acceptable unto Thee. And be gracious unto me in the matter of my seed. Lo! I have turned unto Thee repentant, and lo! I am of those who surrender (unto Thee).

Those are they from whom We accept the best of what they do, and overlook their evil deeds. (They are) among the owners of the Garden. This is the true promise which they were promised (in the world).” (Verse 46: 15-16)

5. Do Good Deeds

To eliminate the bad things you have done, you need to start by doing good deeds like helping others, being honest and righteous.

Allah SWT says in the Quran;

“O ye who believe! Guard your duty to Allah, and speak words straight to the point; He will adjust your works for you and will forgive you your sins. Whosoever obeyeth Allah and His messenger, he verily hath gained a signal victory.” (Verse 33: 70-71)

6. Infaq

Infaq is a word that means charitable deeds done without hope of reward or return. Infaq can be done to anybody, not necessarily people you know or family members.

By doing Infaq seriously, Allah will double his reward and forgive all the sins you’ve committed.

Allah SWT said in the Holy Qur’an;

“If ye lend unto Allah a goodly loan, He will double it for you and will forgive you, for Allah is Responsive, Clement,” (Verse 64: 17)

7. Perform Hajj and Umrah

For muslims who can afford it, Hajj and Umrah can be a good way to erase sins, most especially if you do Wukuf at Arafah.

Iman Ali B. Abi Talib said;

“The Messenger of Allah (SAW) has said,” From the one umrah to the next umrah is the erasing of sin between them and the accepted hajji (Allah) the reward is heaven and there is a sin between sins cannot be forgiven except by standing at Arafah. “(Bihar al-Anwar 99: 50)
