Islamic law of celebrating valentine’s day still becomes controversial from time to time. Some Muslims believe that celebrating valentine’s day is against Islamic rule and law as well.
That is why there will be some of them banned to celebrate valentine’s day.
Some of the cities in Indonesia, such as Aceh banned celebrating valentine’s Day due to against Islamic law.
The government there is so persistent to stand the rules from years to years and will punish to whoever, that celebrating valentine day.
Meanwhile, since valentine’s day is pretty popular, moreover for the youth generation, it can be hard to avoid the celebration.
Speaking of it, here we have some of the Islamic laws of celebrating valentine’s day based on the Quran.

1. Law of Celebrating Love in Islam
Based on the Islamic law of celebrating valentine’s day, celebrating this kind of love in Islam should be done for those who are engaged in marriage. That can be one of the ways how to make a marriage stronger in Islam. That is why celebrating with the loved one without a marriage bond is unlawful in Islam.
Muslims know that the celebrating day of valentine commonly spread to those young couples that don’t marriage legally. That is why celebrating valentine’s day is a ban for Muslims for these intentions.
Such as mentioned in the Quran surah Ar-Rum verse 21 below.
وَمِنْ اٰيٰتِهٖٓ اَنْ خَلَقَ لَكُمْ مِّنْ اَنْفُسِكُمْ اَزْوَاجًا لِّتَسْكُنُوْٓا اِلَيْهَا وَجَعَلَ بَيْنَكُمْ مَّوَدَّةً وَّرَحْمَةً ۗاِنَّ فِيْ ذٰلِكَ لَاٰيٰتٍ لِّقَوْمٍ يَّتَفَكَّرُوْنَ – ٢١
“And among His signs (of greatness) is that He created partners for you from your own kind, so that you would tend to and feel at ease with them, and He created between you love and compassion. Indeed, in that, there are indeed signs (of Allah’s greatness) for a people who think.” (QS 30:21)
2. Law of Following the Crowd
The Islamic law of celebrating valentine’s day is referring to the law of following the crowd in Islam.
Muslims should be more aware that the crowd will push them into a good or bad thing toward Allah’s rule. The decision can be one of the ways how to overcome guilty in Islam.
That is why Muslims should know better to the crowd that they follow, such as mentioned in the Quran surah Al Maidah verse 48 below.
وَاَنْزَلْنَآ اِلَيْكَ الْكِتٰبَ بِالْحَقِّ مُصَدِّقًا لِّمَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ مِنَ الْكِتٰبِ وَمُهَيْمِنًا عَلَيْهِ فَاحْكُمْ بَيْنَهُمْ بِمَآ اَنْزَلَ اللّٰهُ وَلَا تَتَّبِعْ اَهْوَاۤءَهُمْ عَمَّا جَاۤءَكَ مِنَ الْحَقِّۗ لِكُلٍّ جَعَلْنَا مِنْكُمْ شِرْعَةً وَّمِنْهَاجًا
“And We have sent down the Book (Al-Qur’an) to you (Muhammad) with the truth, confirming the books that were revealed previously and guarding them, so decide their case according to what Allah has revealed and do not follow their desires by leaving the truth that has been revealed has come to you. For every nation among you, We have given rules and a clear path.” (QS 5:48)
3. Law of Making Friends
Making friends in youth generations becomes a concern both for boy and girl. Based on the Islamic law of celebrating valentine’s day, for youngsters, it can be referred to as the way of making friends.
Celebrating valentine’s day for them means to spreads kindness between friends.
Making friends is allowed to do in Islamic law. But, they should be aware of what kind of friends meet with the Islamic law. Besides, there are many ways to make friends without celebrating valentine’s day in order to make Muslims on how to stay Istiqamah.
Such as mentioned in the Quran surah An Nisa verse 89 below.
وَدُّوْا لَوْ تَكْفُرُوْنَ كَمَا كَفَرُوْا فَتَكُوْنُوْنَ سَوَاۤءً فَلَا تَتَّخِذُوْا مِنْهُمْ اَوْلِيَاۤءَ حَتّٰى يُهَاجِرُوْا فِيْ سَبِيْلِ اللّٰهِ
“They want you to become disbelievers just as they have become disbelievers so that you become the same (with them). Do not make from among them (you’re) friends, until they turn to the way of Allah.” (QS 4:89)
4. Law of Tolerance
Smart Muslims know better whether they will choose to celebrate valentine’s day or not. Based on the Islamic law of celebrating valentine’s day, sometimes it can be referred to as the law of tolerance for Muslims to others that celebrate the day.
Moreover, Muslims know the state of their tolerance means to do good things as long as they are not fighting against Islamic law, even without celebrating valentine’s day. It is better to make some Duas for protection from shirk to against it.
Such as mentions in the Quran surah Al Mumtahanah verse 8 below.
لَا يَنْهٰىكُمُ اللّٰهُ عَنِ الَّذِيْنَ لَمْ يُقَاتِلُوْكُمْ فِى الدِّيْنِ وَلَمْ يُخْرِجُوْكُمْ مِّنْ دِيَارِكُمْ اَنْ تَبَرُّوْهُمْ وَتُقْسِطُوْٓا اِلَيْهِمْۗ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ يُحِبُّ الْمُقْسِطِيْنَ – ٨
“Allah does not forbid you to do the good and to do justice to those who do not fight you in religious matters and do not expel you from your hometown. Verily, Allah loves those who act justly.” (QS 60:8)
5. Law of the Truth
Muslims know the truth of the valentine history, which they believe comes from the Roman legend that knowingly as the biggest of solemn Christian. That is why Muslims ban every festival and celebration activity that refers to it.
Whether will celebrate or not, the choice in Muslims should be following the truth that every sin is counted properly by Allah. It is better to make Dua keep away from sin, such as mentioned in the Quran surah Al Ankabut verse 4 below.
اَمْ حَسِبَ الَّذِيْنَ يَعْمَلُوْنَ السَّيِّاٰتِ اَنْ يَّسْبِقُوْنَا ۗسَاۤءَ مَا يَحْكُمُوْنَ – ٤
“Or do those who do evil think that they will escape from Us? It’s so bad what they charge!” (QS 29:4)
