Remaining seated after the obligatory pɍayers is of great importance in that the angels will keep on seeking forgiveness for such a person and asking for Allaah’s mercy on the person provided the person is in a state of purification till he leaves.

Shaykh ‘Abdul-‘Azeez ibn Bāz [may Allāh have mercy on him] said:

“The sitting after the concluding portion of the prayer¹ in the prescribed prayers is from the most important times, in which the Mercy of Allāh, the Almighty the Majestic, descends [upon His servants]. Do not hastily get up, rather extol² Allāh, glorify³ Him, praise and thank⁴ Him, and magnify⁵ Him [alone].

Al-Imām ibn Battāl [may Allāh have mercy on him] said:

“Whomsoever has *abundant sins* and desires for Allāh to remove these sins from him without burdening himself, then let him seize the opportunity and remain seated in his place after the completion of prayer, in order that he may take advantage of the Angels, whom seek increase in their supplication for him and increase in their invoking for [Allāh’s] forgiveness for him.”

Sharh Saheeh ul-Bukhāri, 3/114 | Al-Imām ibn Battāl [may Allāh have mercy on him).

TN: ¹ Tasleem [تسليم] is the concluding portion of the prayer, where one recites السلام عليكم ورحمة الله‎ As-salāmu ‘alaikum wa-rahmatu-llah [‘Peace and Allāh’s Mercy be unto you’] once, while facing the right and once while facing the left. One cannot exit from the prayer without saying it.
