Al-Tawheed: Islamic monotheism means to believe in Allaah, His Angels, His books, His messengers, the day of resurrection and Al-Qadar (divine preordainment) that whatever Allaah ordained shall come to pass (whether good or bad).
It also includes:
To testify that none has the right to be worshipped but Allaah and Muhammad is the messenger of Allaah.
To offer the five daily compulsory solah
To pay the zakaah.
To fast in the month of Ramadhaan.
To perform hajj ( pilgrimage to the Holy land of Makkah ).
Islamic monotheism is divided into three aspects. Which are:
1. The oneness of the Lordship of Allaah (TAUHEED AR- RUBUBIYYAH): To believe that there is only one Lord for all the universe, who is its creator, organiser, planner, sustainer and the giver of security e.t.c. and that is Allaah.
2. The oneness of the Worship of Allaah ( TAUHEED AL ULUUHIYHAH): TO believe that none has the right to be worshipped e.g ( praying, invoking, asking for help from the unseen, swearing, offering sacrifice, giving charity, fasting, placing trust in, aspiration, hope and pilgrimage) but Allaah.
3. The oneness of the names and qualities/ attributes of Allaah ( TAUHEED AL ASMAU WA S SIFAAT): TO believe that we must not name or qualify Allaah except with what He or His messenger named or qualify Him.
a. None has been named or qualified with the Names or Qualifications of Allaah.
b. We believe in all the qualities of Allaah mentioned in his book and mentioned through his messenger without changing or twisting their meaning (surotul Taha :5).
Allah says: There is nothing like Him and He is all seen and all hearer (surotu- sh- shuuro 42: 11).
This holy verse proves the quality of hearing and sight for Allaah by likening them and He also said:
To one whom I have created with Both My Hands (surotuṣ ṣaad 38:75).
He also said: ” The Hand of Allaah is over their hand (surotul fath 48:10).
It is also essential to follow Allaah’s messenger (S.A.W), (Wujuub Al- ‘ittibaa) and it is a part of Tauheed Al uluuhiyyah.
Allaah says:
” And whatsoever the Messenger ( Muhammad S.A.W) gives you take it, and whatsoever he forbids you, abstain from it. ( Surotul hashr 59: 7).
” And He also said:
“Say (O Muhammad S.A.W) to mankind, if you really love Allaah then follow me i.e accept Islamic monotheism, follow the Qur’an and the Sunnah, Allaah will love you and forgive you your sins”…(Surotul Aal imraan 3: 31).
May Allah grant us beneficial knowledge and sound understanding of the Deen, Aameen.
