The soul can be part of a person capable of thinking and feeling, and it is a spiritual part of any human that continues to exist even after the body dies.
Our body harbours this soul; the latter directs the former, which places it in a significant position, hence the need to get it always purified or lures the body into a jungle of destruction.
Unfortunately, it does not even occur to many that our souls need pedicures and manicures while we dare not leave the body untreated.
Our body, upon which we lay so much value, constantly reminds us of our situation. When we wake up in the morning, we usually notice that the face is swollen and distorted, the mouth has a bad taste, and we sometimes feel uncomfortable, dirty sensations on the skin, hair and body. We get these cleansed carefully; if not, the situation becomes unpleasant to self and others. This cleaning has to be repeated during the day because the dirt resurfaces after a few hours. And if for any reason this personal hygiene is suspended for a few days, the ugly odour becomes obvious and irritating.
If the body that will rot and decay after our demise demands such tender care, what happens to the soul that influences this body? Do we think about its level of unhealthiness? It seems this soul suffers neglect, whereas; both body and soul are mutually connected as long as they exist. A beautiful body cannot perform good deeds if its soul is impure.
Allaah SWT says: ” indeed he succeeds, who purifies his own self, and indeed he fails who corrupts his own self” (surotu- sh- shams: 9-10).
By implication, if much attention is devoted to cleaning the body while the soul is neglected, there are dangers for such a person in life and the hereafter.
The prophet SAW is reported to have said that: “there is a portion in human body which if get infected with bad conducts, the whole body is spoilt. And then he said, heart is the portion.”
We can now see why Shaytaan has dominated everywhere, and the majority are allies of the Devil. He admits and discharges people in and out of his clinic every moment. Some souls are on permanent admission, where he delivered them into his mortuary (hellfire).
May Allah save us from His wrath, Ameen!

The holy Qur’an has been revealed as a guide and cure for all kinds of ailments, be it physical or spiritual. So to get rid of all the diseases that affect the soul, the Qur’an is prescribed; it should be glanced through at all times and made part of one’s daily life.
It relieves the mind and sharpens one’s memory. Keeping good company is also a good cure to the diseases of the soul, those that will make one be in remembrance of Allah at all times and correct one when transgressed.
